Bioinformatics Workflow Engineer

Data Intuitive is a Belgian company specialising in scalable, reproducible omics workflows and computational infrastructure for life sciences R&D. We help research teams move from exploratory analysis to production-grade bioinformatics workflows that can be maintained, reused, and trusted over time.

We are currently seeking a bioinformatics-focused professional with a strong scientific mindset and a passion for applying computer science best practices to join our core team. As part of the core team, you’ll have a unique opportunity to develop professionally and grow as an expert, coach or leader within our company.

Our competitive compensation package includes an attractive salary and numerous benefits.

This is a remote-first role offering flexibility to suit your personal needs. Candidates must be based in Flanders (Belgium). You’ll collaborate daily in a modern virtual office and come together with the team approximately seven times per year at inspiring locations for focused collaboration and key discussions.

We take pride in our distinctive company culture that emphasises open source, well-being, sustainability and technology-driven innovation.

Ideal Candidates Will Possess

  • A master’s degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, bio-engineering or a related field; a PhD is a strong plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • A collaborative mindset and strong sense of collegiality
  • The ability to work both independently and within a team
  • Technological curiosity and a genuine drive for continuous improvement
  • Fluency in English

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with academic partners, pharmaceutical R&D teams and research centres to develop and maintain (multi-)omics data workflows, with a focus on long-term partnerships rather than temporary staff augmentation
  • Design and deliver high-quality, maintainable code and sustainable R&D solutions, with a strong emphasis on reproducibility, long-term maintainability and real-world usability
  • Contribute to both internal R&D initiatives and client projects, applying your expertise to support company growth while maintaining a strong customer-centric focus
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by both mentoring colleagues and actively learning from them
  • Build and maintaining long-term relationships with our clients based on trust, mutual success and enjoyable collaboration

Required Biological Skills

  • Experience with single-cell technologies and data processing
  • Familiarity with data integration and multimodal omics analyses
  • Solid understanding of molecular biology, genomics and transcriptomics
  • Experience with bioinformatics databases, resources and standard data formats

Required IT Technical Skills

  • Expertise in the Nextflow workflow management system
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Singularity
  • Proficiency in programming languages including Python, R and Shell
  • Experience using Git
  • Solid knowledge of Linux-based operating systems, libraries, and tools

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience working in high-performance computing (HPC) environments
  • Knowledge of artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms
  • Proficiency in programming languages Javascript and/or Rust

We value candidates with the ‘nice to have’ skills and are committed to providing training and development opportunities to expand your skill set.

This role offers a clear growth path, allowing you to develop deep technical expertise while gradually taking on more responsibility in client interaction, workflow design, and long-term ownership. Depending on your interests, you can grow as a technical expert, a mentor or a future leader within the company.

We do not expect candidates to tick every box - strong foundations and a willingness to learn matter more than familiarity with every tool listed. This role is positioned for mid to senior profiles who can work autonomously and take ownership of complex projects.
