Mini-symposium: Precision Medicine at the Interface of Translational Research and Systems Medicine

Given recent developments on COVID-19, scientific sessions and meetings have been converted to virtual sessions.

It is with great scientific enthusiasm to invite you to the TranSYS Kick-off Symposium on Personalized Medicine in Leuven, Belgium, on the 18-19th of March 2020.

We feel proud and honoured to present our three keynote speakers, with the opening keynote on the 18th of March given by Prof Michael Snyder on ‘Big Data and Health’! Michael Snyder is professor of Genetics at Stanford, now leading the Stanford Center for Genomics and Personalized Medicine (SCGPM), and one of the pioneers in Personalized Medicine. Scientists in the SCGPM are working on technology development for efficiently sequencing human genomes at low cost and were among the first to collaborate with clinicians to see what can be learned from an individual's genome sequence for optimized disease risk prediction, diagnosis and disease management. This keynote lecture is co-organized by the OriGENE Team and will be followed by a panel discussion with Mike Snyder, Yves Moreau (KU Leuven), Gert Matthijs (KU Leuven), Catherine Van Der Straeten (HIRUZ - UZGent), Sofie Bekaert (VIB), Frederic Coppens (ELIXIR Belgium) and Ritchie Head (CERATIUM).

Both the second and third keynote talks will be given on the 19th of March. Prof. Marija Cvijovic (Chalmers, Sweden – ‘From single cell to whole population model of yeast replicative ageing: how to age healthy’). Her interdisciplinary lab studies the complexity of cellular ageing using experimental and computational methods. Benjamin Dizier (UCB, Belgium – ‘Redefining complex diseases for drug development through experimental medicine and systems biology’) has a strong track record in the pharmaceutical industry and currently leads Immunology Translational Medicine at UCB.

Companies interested in sponsoring this symposium can contact info.cme@kuleuven.be for further inquiries.

With kind regards,

prof. dr. Carine Carels for the OriGENE Team
prof. dr. Kristel Van Steen for the TranSYS Consortium
