Science based solutions to control the COVID-19 crisis

On June 18th & 25th 2020 Flanders Vaccine is happy to organize a webinar series to share some scientific information on the special road to a vaccine or treatment to control the COVID-19 pandemic.

This series is split in two parts:

  • Webinar 1: Pre-clinical & clinical research for an unknown virus (June 18 at 17:00 CEST)
    Deadline registration on 16/06/2020

  • Webinar 2: COVID-19: Prevention and Cure (June 25 at 17:00 CEST)
    Deadline registration on 23/06/2020

Leading scientist, all Flanders Vaccine members, will show you the latest results of their groundbreaking research to respond to this crisis.

Among them are Prof. Pierre Van Damme, Prof. Johan Neyts, Prof. Bart Lambrecht and many more renowned experts.

The development of a COVID-19 vaccine is urgently needed, so is the discovery of COVID-19 treatments. As part of this process, it is also important to have a suitable animal model to test them. However, which animal(s) can be the most useful to study COVID-19 remains a question.

Making the right choice may be the most important factor for success in the development of a vaccine or treatment.

Another key element to control this crisis is “time”. How can the long road to a vaccine or treatment be shortened without sacrificing safety. What is the role of Controlled Human Infection Models (CHIMs) in this process?

These topics will be discussed during the first webinar on Thursday 18 June from 17:00-19:00 CEST.

Scientists around the world are working hard on potential treatments and vaccines for the new coronavirus disease. Some companies or research groups are working on antiviral drugs, some of which are already in use against other diseases, to treat COVID-19 patients. Other scientist are working on the development of a vaccine to use as a preventive measure to protect against the disease.

The contribution of our Belgian experts in the race for a vaccine or treatment to fight COVID-19 will be addressed in the second webinar, on Thursday 25 June from 17:00-19:00 CEST.
